Understanding Madeira Trail Fees in 2026

Since January 2026, all classified hiking trails in Madeira require advance booking through the SIMplifica platform. The fee system is designed to manage trail capacity and fund conservation efforts across the island's precious Laurisilva forest and mountain ecosystems.

When Multi-Day Passes Make Sense

Multi-day passes offer savings for active hikers planning multiple trails. Here's when each pass becomes cost-effective:

• 1-Day Pass (€9): Worth it if hiking 3+ trails in a single day
• 3-Day Pass (€22.50): Worth it if hiking 6+ trails over 3 consecutive days
• 7-Day Pass (€52.50): Worth it if hiking 12+ trails over 7 consecutive days

Important: PR1 (Vereda do Areeiro / Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo) is excluded from all multi-day passes and must be booked separately at €10.50 (or €7 with a protocol operator).

Exemptions Still Require Booking

Even if you're exempt from fees (Madeira residents, children under 12, disability 60%+), you must still register on SIMplifica and reserve a time slot. The booking system manages trail capacity using 30-minute entry windows from sunrise to sunset.
