How Much Does Hiking in Madeira Cost?
Since January 2026, all 42 classified hiking trails on Madeira require a paid permit booked through the SIMplifica portal. This calculator helps you estimate total costs based on your itinerary and group composition.
How the Fee Calculator Works
Our calculator uses the official 2026 fee schedule to give you an accurate estimate:
- Select the trails you plan to hike from the list of open PR routes
- Set your group size — children under 12 and Madeira residents are exempt
- Toggle the operator discount if you're hiking with a licensed protocol operator
- Compare individual fees vs. multi-day passes to find the best value
When Do Multi-Day Passes Make Sense?
Multi-day passes cover consecutive days and can save money if you're hiking multiple trails:
- 1-Day Pass (€9): worth it if you hike 3+ trails in a single day
- 3-Day Pass (€22.50): worth it for 6+ trails over 3 consecutive days
- 7-Day Pass (€52.50): worth it for 12+ trails over a week
PR1 (Pico do Areeiro) is excluded from all multi-day passes.
You hike for free!
Children under 12 and residents of Madeira are exempt from all trail fees.
