Trust & transparency

Editorial policy

Madeira Hiking is built to be a practical planning tool. This page explains how we source information, how we handle corrections, and what “verified” means in our guide listings.

Last updated:

1) Independence & neutrality

We are not affiliated with any single hiking operator. Our goal is to help visitors choose safe hikes, understand access rules, and find reputable guides.

2) Primary sources for rules & trail access

Trail status, fees, and booking rules can change. We prioritize official sources (IFCN and Visit Madeira) and always link to them so you can verify the latest information.

3) “Verified guides” — what it means

On our operators page, entries marked as verified are included based on the information currently available to us (e.g., licensing claims, public profiles, contact details, and consistency across sources). Verification is not a guarantee of quality or safety.

Always confirm details directly with the operator (route, pickup, cancellation policy, group size, and whether they handle fees/permits for you).

4) Updates, accuracy, and corrections

We update pages when:

  • Official rules change (fees, reservations, trail access)
  • Trail conditions change (closures, restrictions)
  • We receive credible correction requests from users or operators

If you spot an error, email info@madeirahiking.org with:

  • URL of the page
  • What’s wrong and what it should say
  • Source (official link or evidence)

5) Affiliate links & monetization

If we use affiliate links or sponsored placements in the future, we will disclose them clearly on the page where they appear.
