A permit-and-guide booking covers the SIMplifica reservation and a licensed local guide in one arrangement. The guide books the trail access at the ICNF protocol rate, so the fee sits inside the tour price and you never open the portal yourself. It suits hikers who want PR1 or another permitted route without handling the reservation, the entry slot and the drive to the trailhead. If you would rather book the permit yourself, that route is still open and costs less.

The permit itself is the easy part: it is booked online, one per person, per trail, per day. Getting to the start is what catches most people out.

Book the permit yourself
- Cost
- €4.50 per person, per trail, per day on most PR routes, and €10.50 on PR1. Madeira residents and children under 12 are exempt and still register.
- What you handle
- Choosing the trail and the 30-minute entry slot on simplifica.madeira.gov.pt, paying by card, keeping the confirmation email, and getting yourself to the trailhead.
- When it makes sense
- You have a car, you know the route, and your dates are loose enough to take whichever slot is free.
Guided, permit included
- Cost
- The trail fee sits inside the tour price at the ICNF protocol rate of €3, or €7 on PR1. The guide quotes the tour price directly.
- What you handle
- One message with your dates, group size and the trail. The guide books the access, holds the slot and sets the meeting point.
- When it makes sense
- A first time on PR1, no car, a group that wants one booking, or a date where the slots fill quickly.
